Annual Reports

01Lloyds TSB Foundation. origin8 has been designing the annual report for the Lloyds TSB Foundation for three years. Each year we refresh the 60-page design to distinguish it from previous editions, and last year we were positively recognised by Third Sector magazine for the design of the 2010 report. The challenge is to present a large amount of written content in a clear, concise and attractive way. The two-column layout and open typography breaks up the text and makes reading easy, and each spread is given visual impact by the use of large images featuring the Foundation’s good work.

02ECLOF is a charity dedicated to the financial empowerment of disadvantaged and vulnerable people throughout the world. We worked with ECLOF to feature images of success stories, highlighting the importance of its work in a positive way, and showcasing inspirational content alongside the necessary reporting of the 'nuts and bolts' of ECLOF's financial year.

Fundraising Materials

01Breakthrough Breast Cancer. Origin8 has been producing campaign material for Breathrough for more than ten years. Each event has its own identity theme to attract attention and achieve recognition, and the Breakthrough brand underpins the whole campaign portfolio. We often work with supporter images that show people in action but sometimes aren't professional quality. We creatively blend these important images into our own designs to create professional material that puts the supporters at the centre of the story.

02RSPCA. The RSPCA asked us to design a fundraising pack for their corporate supporters to inspire their staff to raise money for the charity. The pack was generic so that it was appropriate for the variety of companies that support the RSPCA and engaging so that staff felt motivated to fundraise. The pack had to respect the RSPCA's brand and reflect the positive nature of the charity's work.

03Martlets. Martlets Hospice wanted to encourage a greater number and wider range of participants to its 2011 Hike4Hospices event, with a range of distance options to suit different fitness levels, and all ages. Working with a copywriter, we produced campaign material that evoked the exciting challenge of a summer hiking adventure across the South Downs, and also provided clear information on the levels at which one could participate.

Joomla! Websites

Joomla allows us to build great looking, high performance websites within the budgets of smaller organisations. Because the technical architecture is already in place, we can focus our time, and your money, on design and functionality. Joomla-based sites can include online shopping, reservation systems, product catalogues and galleries, blogs and forums. The technology is open source, which means that it's supported by a worldwide community of experts and enthusiasts who continue to add new features.

01Cathy Lara. The Cathy Lara site is the portal for Cathy's German translation services, based in California. The site was displayed in both German and English, including hosting with separate German and US ISPs. Cathy is an active blogger, so we gave her a blogging facility. Her site changes regularly too, so we provided her with full access to edit the site's content, and trained her on how to do it.

02Bidwrite The BidWrite site exists to showcase the outstanding talent of one of the world's most gifted young bid writers - Paul Sharville. It was an honour and a privilege to be asked to produce this site for next to nothing, knowing that one day people will admire and envy us for having been able to get so close to the man and the legend. The site, designed along simple lines using a greyscale palette, has become a Mecca for thousands of followers who idolise the writer and his work. To return the favour, Paul wrote the copy for this origin8 site, including the item you're reading now.

03SOARS. We designed this site as a touchpoint for people to read about the emotive and contentious issue of right-to-die from the perspective of activists who are campaigning to get the current UK law changed to support old age rational suicide. The important consideration when designing this site was not to detract from the site's purpose in making the case for their argument, and to deliver a site that could be easily read rather than admired as a visual showpiece. Simple one-column pages with a strong header panel deliver a purposeful site. Joomla allowed us to create it quickly and cost-effectively.

04The Cosy Cottage Cafe. Located in Ireland, the Cost Cottage Cafe wanted a site that would reflect the warm and welcoming nature of the cafe. They wanted a website that would both encourage new customers to visit and a place to easily access information about the cafe's style of food, their approach and location.
